Display Energy Certificates (DEC’s)

Display Energy Certificates (DECs) are a legal requirement for public buildings in the UK. They showcase the energy performance of a building based on actual energy consumption over a 12-month period, using a scale from A to G, where A is the most efficient and G the least. DECs are accompanied by an Advisory Report, which provides recommendations for improving energy efficiency.

Who Needs a DEC?

DECs are mandatory for public buildings with a total useful floor area over 250 square meters that are frequently visited by the public. This includes schools, hospitals, libraries, and government buildings. DECs must be displayed prominently in such buildings, visible to the public.

Renewal of DEC’s

DEC’s are valid for 1 year if the floor area is over 1000m2 (Advisory Report valid for 7 years) and valid for 10 years if floor area is under 1000m2.
